OFFICERS 2023-2024

Abhiram Devata

Abhiram Devata

Co-President

Abhiram is a fourth year chemical engineering major from Fremont, California. Driven by a passion to optimize energy usage, he is interested in the intersection of material science and energy efficiency of small-scale electronics. He currently researches light emission and characterization of III-Nitride metasurfaces and materials for solid-state electronic devices with the Gordon lab. Outside of academics, he enjoys baking/cooking and taking long walks.

Yu Ling Zeng

Yu Ling Zeng

Co-President

Yu Ling is a fourth year chemical engineering major originally from Montreal, Canada and currently living in LA. While still unsure, she is interested in pharmaceutical or statistical analysis.  Outside of chemical engineering, she enjoys roller skating, painting and crocheting.

Stephanie Anujarerat

Stephanie Anujarerat

External Vice President

Stephanie is a fourth year chemical engineering major from Cerritos, CA. Her main interests lie in bioengineering—she enjoys learning about how biological systems can play a role in production or inspire other materials. She is currently participating in research on the self-assembly of driven protein filament structures with the Takatori lab. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, gardening, and reading (and is always up for discussing speculative fiction).

Andrew Kwon

Internal Vice President

Andrew is a third year chemical engineering major from Pleasanton, California. He is interested in learning more about sustainable energy, and currently works in the Clément Lab, where he is optimizing alluaudite-phase cathode material for sodium ion battery applications. Outside of school, he enjoys watching YouTube and playing/watching basketball and tennis.

Sofia Rivalta Popescu

Co-Secretary

Sofia is a third year chemical engineering major from Santa Monica, California. Her main interests include physical electrochemistry. She is currently working on improving single-entity electrochemistry as a method for in-situ sizing of insulating nanoparticles. Outside of chemical engineering, she enjoys drawing and playing video games.

Nabil Alansari

Co-Secretary

Nabil is a fourth year Chemical Engineering student from Dubai, UAE. His main interests are bioinformatics and biotechnology. He is currently working on analyzing long terminal repeats in anaerobic fungi genomes in the O’Malley lab. In his spare time he enjoys playing video games, watching tv shows, and baking/cooking.

Daniel Fragoso

Treasurer

Daniel is a third year chemical engineering major from Danville, CA. He is currently exploring his interests in soft robotics in the Gordon Lab, and understanding how DASA, a photothermal dye, reacts in elastomeric materials. In his spare time, he enjoys biking and hiking outdoors.

Alan Stoev

Industry Chair

Alan is a third year chemical engineering major from Pleasanton, CA. His main interests are in catalysis, surface science, and battery science. He is currently working in the Chmelka Lab running reaction tests, characterization and synthesis of zeolites. Outside of chemical engineering he likes to surf and read.

Allen Loomis

Project Lead

Allen is a second chemical engineering major from Santa Clara, California. He is exploring interests in renewable energy, water sanitation, and batch processes . Allen works with the Research Experience Education Facility (REEF) at UCSB, leading education and outreach programs for the extended Santa Barbara community. In his spare time, Allen enjoys photographing sunsets, kombucha, and scuba diving.

Lauren Bajo-Smith

Social Chair

Lauren is a second year chemical engineering major from Chula Vista, California. She is interested in biotechnology, colloidal assembly, and biochemical engineering. When not planning events for AIChE, you can find her napping in random HSSB classrooms, wandering around Goleta, or being generally rambunctious with her sorority sisters.

Phineas Lehan

Public Representative

Phineas is a third year chemical engineering major from Half Moon Bay, California. He currently works on creating clean-energy through methane pyrolysis and studying the outgassing of water in ultra-high vacuum in the Gordon Lab. In his free time he enjoys surfing, climbing, hiking, and shrimping.

Ivan Zhao

Sophomore Representative

Ivan is a second year chemical engineering major from Hacienda Heights, California. He is exploring interests in rheology and formulations. Outside of AIChE and ChE, Ivan enjoys working out, researching computer parts, and video games.

Anaita Mistry

Freshman Representative

Anaita is a first year chemical engineering major from Pleasanton, California. Her interests include planetary science and biotechnology. In her free time she loves stargazing, reading, and traveling.

Tanvi Kamath

Freshman Representative

Tanvi is a first-year chemical engineering major from Cupertino, California. She is excited to explore various research areas and get involved on campus. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, reading, and hiking.
